As we age, our skin’s natural shedding process slows down, leading to dull-looking skin. I am definitely guilty of overusing exfoliators and experimenting with chemical peels in hopes of combating those pesky whiteheads and ughh…clogged pores, but overdoing it can sometimes backfire. My skin reached its breaking point and let me know it was done. Despite trying various remedies, nothing seemed to restore it to normal.
After consulting a dermatologist, I learned that my skin barrier was damaged. He prescribed a gentle skincare routine to rebuild it. This involved using a gentle soap-free cleanser, a soothing toner, a water-based gel, a light cream moisturizer, and sunscreen. With patience, this gentle approach worked. My skin forgave me and we made up.
At first, I used prescription products, but eventually found equally effective alternatives. In this post, I will introduce one of my true loves, but first let’s talk about the brand.
Brand Legacy:
CEZANNE’s long history dates back to 1964 and is renowned in Japan for its affordable yet high-quality cosmetic and skincare products. You know a brand prioritizes safety when their motto is, “Always safe, always beautiful.” They remain Japan’s most popular drugstore brands. Their best selling product is CEZANNE Make Keep Base, an oil controlling, sebum reducing, pore minimizing, sweat proof and waterproof primer.
Product Overview:
CEZANNE Hatomugi Skin Conditioner
According to their website, CEZANNE Hatomugi Skin Conditioner contains an impressive 50 types of beauty moisturizing ingredients and can be used on the face, body, and hair. Despite having so many ingredients it is fragrance-free, color-free, and mineral oil-free. It is also free from alcohol and surfactants. For those concerned, it’s fungal acne safe ( I verified multiple times on Sezia.co ). Additionally, it has a slightly weak acidic pH level. This is important because a slightly acidic pH level helps maintain the skin’s natural balance.
Key Ingredients:
Its key components include plant-derived moisturizing ingredients, amino acids, hyaluronic acid, and collagen, which are perfect for addressing the specific needs of mature skin, such as hydration, firmness, and elasticity. Additionally, it contains pearl barley seed extract, a natural plant moisturizing ingredient that prevents skin irritation and keeps your skin moisturized and healthy. The product also includes a variety of botanical extracts. Notably, coix seed, lemon fruit, artichoke leaf, grape leaf, and chamomile flower, which offer a range of benefits for the skin, from soothing and nourishing to brightening and antioxidant protection.
Texture and Feel:
I love this product for its non-sticky texture. Despite Japan’s humid climate, it absorbs effortlessly into the skin without leaving any residue, and you can layer without any stickiness. It feels soothing and leaves the skin feeling nourished, looking plump and radiant. It feels comfortable and makes your skin soft and a little bit dewy.
I have tried the three top-selling Hatomugi skin conditioners/toners. I found that one left a sticky residue, while the other was underwhelming. However, in my opinion, CEZANNE Hatomugi Skin Conditioner is the best!
How I Use it:
After cleansing my face, I use it to remove any residue before gently patting it into my skin until fully absorbed. I follow up with a moisturizing water gel and sometimes reapply the skin conditioner if needed. I occasionally use it as a sheet mask when I have extra time. During the period when I ran out of this product, my skin appeared dull and felt tight, now I cannot be without it.
With its multitude of benefits and versatile usage I will always repurchase CEZANNE Hatomugi Skin Conditioner. Whether you’re combating dullness, restoring your skin barrier, needing extra hydration, looking for a fungal acne safe toner or simply looking to pamper your skin, this product is definitely worth a try!
